OpenAI Partners with Japan's Digital Agency to Advance AI in Public Services

OpenAI and Japan’s Digital Agency announced a strategic collaboration today focused on leveraging generative AI to enhance public services within Japan. As part of this collaboration, Japan’s Digital Agency will provide government employees with access to Gennai, a new AI tool powered by OpenAI's technology. The goal is to identify and implement innovative use cases for AI within the public sector. OpenAI is also contributing to the OECD and G7 pilot program, led by the Japanese government, to monitor the Hiroshima AI Process. This initiative aims to establish an inclusive international governance framework for AI, ensuring its safe, secure, and trustworthy deployment globally. Aligned with Japanese government policies, OpenAI will actively explore initiatives, including pursuing ISMAP certification, to foster secure and reliable government AI. The company stated that it will continue to prioritize safety, transparency, and international cooperation while deepening partnerships with the Japanese government, local authorities, educational institutions, industry, and users to contribute to the responsible and sustainable integration of generative AI into society.
